Luxury watch theft in Cannes : a repeated phenomenon at the height of the festival
On Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the height of the Cannes Film Festival, a robbery took place at Port Canto, just off the Croisette. The victim was robbed of a luxury watch with an estimated value of 100,000 euros. The perpetrator fled on foot. An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the incident and identify those responsible.
This incident is part of a worrying series of thefts of luxury watches in Cannes in recent weeks. On May 2, an attempted theft of a Richard Mille watch valued at 600,000 euros belonging to a member of the Qatari royal family was foiled thanks to the swift intervention of the police. Seven individuals, all Italian nationals from Naples, were arrested.
Local police are reporting an upsurge in such acts during busy periods, such as the Cannes Film Festival. Since April 1, twelve watch thieves have been arrested in Cannes. The authorities have stepped up surveillance measures, combining human presence and video surveillance, to counter these criminal acts targeting holders of high-value goods.
