Theft of a Jacob & Co. watch worth a million euros
Where do these criminals go? Paris’ famous “golden triangle”, and in particular the “most beautiful” avenue in the world: the Champs-Élysées, where thieves mainly target tourists. Among the victims, an American tourist visiting Paris was robbed on the morning of January 1st. According to an article published on March 25, it was 8:30 a.m. when the man, staying at the Pullman Hotel, was walking along the Champs-Élysées near the cabs.
Still under the effect of the previous evening’s party, he was suddenly surrounded by two individuals who stole his watch before fleeing in a Renault Clio, where other accomplices were waiting for them, and then disappearing into the early morning streets of Paris. The watch, worth a million euros, was an extravagant Jacob & Co. model, a diamond-encrusted Bugatti Chiron, made in collaboration with the carmaker from Molsheim in eastern France.
The Paris police, more specifically the Sûreté Territoriale, took charge of the investigation and formed “watch groups” specialized in the luxury watch market, using video surveillance and analysis of the suspects’ communications, who had been following the victim long before the theft. As a result of the investigation, three suspects were arrested in the Paris region, including one who had already received an order to leave the country.
They were charged with organized robbery and remanded in custody the following Friday. As for the watch, it has not been recovered.
